About Our Wholesome Ingredients

Chicken:
Chicken provides high-quality protein that maintains muscle mass and strength. It delivers wholesome calcium and phosphorus in the proper ratios, as well as the other essential macro and trace minerals. Chicken is one of the

few natural sources of chondroitin, a compound critical to large-breed skeletal health. Different types of meat vary in essential fatty acid levels—chicken and pork are the richest in fatty acids, while lamb and beef are both relatively low.

Chicken Meal:
Chicken meal is highly digestible and an excellent source of amino acids and quality protein. It is also very palatable to dogs.

Brown Rice:
Brown rice contains a generous supply of B vitamins, calcium, phosphorus, and iron. As a source of complex carbohydrates, it provides quick energy and is protein-rich. Like all cereal grains, brown rice is an important source of fat, essential fatty acids and amino acids, dietary fiber, and trace minerals.

Oats:
Oats are an unsurpassed source of the complex carbohydrates that give animals energy.

Barley:
A highly-digestible, natural whole grain, barley is an excellent source of B vitamins and lysine, an essential amino acid many dogs lack. It also provides high-quality protein, carbohydrates, and dietary fiber. Although barley is used primarily for carbohydrates (and hence energy), it is also an important source of fat, essential fatty acids, and trace minerals.

Chipped Rice:
Chipped rice contains the B-1 vitamins that promote growth, aid digestion of carbohydrates, maintain nervous system, heart, and muscle health, and stabilize the appetite.

Menhaden Fish Meal:
Fish meal is highly palatable and an excellent source of protein, fish oils, and Omega-3 fatty acids—all critical for a healthy skin and coat, normal reproduction, proper body function, and improved puppy growth rate. Menhaden is one of the richest sources of linoleic and linolenic acids. It also contains high levels of lysine, tryptophan, valine, methionine, and tyrosine, which aid growth, neuro-transmitter function, muscle metabolism, protein synthesis, and thyroid health, respectively. Additionally, Menhaden contains significantly larger amounts than most other natural ingredients of glutamic acid, histadine, aspartic acid, threonine, phenylalanine, leucine and isoleucine (all vital amino acids).

Chicken Fat:
The highest of all animal sources in linoleic acid, chicken fat is an important element for skin and coat health. It is very palatable, high in essential fatty acids, and easily and quickly metabolized.

Natural Chicken Flavors:
Natural flavors supply taste and palatability.

Flaxseed:
Flaxseed meal is a good source of Omega-6 and Omega-3 essential fatty acids, which produce a soft, luxuriant coat.

Dried Egg Product:
As a whole food, eggs are often regarded as the perfect protein. Eggs contain a full array of minerals, including rich levels of calcium (in the yolk), all the vitamins except vitamin C, a range of high-quality saturated and unsaturated fatty acids, lecithin, and the entire range of enzymes and other longevity factors present in raw foods. Eggs are an especially good source of biotin, vitamin D, vitamin B12, iron, choline and sulfur.

Apples:
Apples are especially high in non-pro vitamin A carotenes and pectin, a remarkable type of fiber that has been shown to boost many beneficial effects. Apples are also rich in beta-carotene and vitamin C as well as several B-complex vitamins, including vitamin B6, folic acid and potassium.

Carrots:
Among common vegetables, the carrot is the richest source of pro-vitamin A. Carrots also contain beta-carotene—an antioxidant—and vitamins B, C, D, E, K, riboflavin, niacin, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, sodium, and iron.

Sweet Potatoes:
Sweet potatoes are an excellent source of antioxidants such as beta-carotene and Vitamins A, C, and E, as well as potassium, calcium, and iron. They also provide natural dietary fiber and the complex carbohydrates that offer an alternative to traditional fiber choices (especially useful for pets that may have food allergies or other sensitivities).

Herring Oil:
Herring oil contains the natural ingredients needed to produce a lustrous and healthy coat. It also has marine Omega-3 fatty acids.

Dried Kelp Meal:
Kelp is a naturally balanced supplement—an abundant source of minerals, amino acids and vitamins, including essential trace minerals. These nutrients are necessary for the production of enzymes that promote healthy body functions. Kelp contains over 60 minerals and elements and 21 amino acids and simple and complex carbohydrates, which promote glandular health, especially in the pituitary, adrenal and thyroid glands.

Beet Pulp (only in our Puppy Formula):

Beet pulp contributes valuable fiber. The fiber adds bulk and slows digestion, allowing the animal to better absorb nutrients, which in turn stabilizes the blood sugar. This helps prevent hypoglycemia in very young puppies.

Potassium Chloride:
Potassium chloride is an excellent source of potassium and vitamin A.

Dicalcium Phosphate:
Dicalcium phosphate is a good source of the calcium and phosphorus necessary for healthy bones and teeth.

Salt:
Salt provides sodium and chloride, essential nutrients.

Lactobacillus Acidophilus:
Lactobacillus acidophilus is a
probiotc-beneficial bacteria that produce organic acids (such as lactic and acetic) and  digestive enzymes.

Bacillus Subtilus:
Microbials lessen gas and bloating and promote consistent growth, healthier coats, resistance to disease, and better overall health.

Bifidobacterium pseudolongum:
Bifidobacferium reduces the growth of pathogenic bacteria, promotes nutrient absorption, and may enhance the immune system.

Enterococcus Faecium:
Enterococcus faecium produces short-chain fatty acids that modulate the gut pH level and provide a source of fuel for cells lining the gut. This, in turn, strengthens the intestinal cells, helps enhance nutrient absorption, and stimulates immune functions in dogs.

Calcium Carbonate:
Calcium carbonate provides calcium for bones and teeth. Calcium plays a role in nerve impulse transmission, muscle contraction, blood coagulation, the activation of enzyme systems, and cardiac function.

Choline Chloride:
Generally classified as a B-complex vitamin (referred to as vitamin B4 in some publications), choline influences the metabolism of carotene and vitamin A in animals. It is an essential component in ensuring proper nervous system function.

Zinc Sulfate:
Zinc promotes the mineralization of bone, digestion of protein, and the conversion of calorie-containing nutrients into energy. Zinc further aids in enzyme reaction, cell replication, protein and carbohydrate metabolism, skin health, and wound healing.

Vitamin A:
Vitamin A aids vision, growth, immune function, fetal development, cellular differentiation, and trans-membrane protein transfer. Vitamin A is essential for the repair of body tissues and also benefits bone formation.

Vitamin D3:
Vitamin D3 promotes the formation of bones and teeth. It also plays a role in the maintenance of healthy nerve and muscle systems.

Iron Sulfate:
Iron aids hemoglobin and myoglobin synthesis as well as energy metabolism.

Copper Sulfate:
Copper is an essential trace mineral for animals.

Manganese Sulfate:
Manganese is an essential trace mineral for animals.

Niacin:
Niacin is an essential vitamin and part of the vitamin B-complex. A lack of niacin can cause deficiency disease.

Pantothenic Acid:
Pantothenic acid is involved in a number of biological reactions, including the production of energy, the catabolism of fatty acids and amino acids, the synthesis of fatty acids, phospholipids, sphingolipids, cholesterol and steroid hormones, and the synthesis of heme and the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. This acid enables the body to create usable energy from carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The symptoms of pantothenic acid deficiency include loss of hair, diarrhea, and gastric upsets. Deficiency has also been associated with abnormal graying, particularly in black-coated animals.

Folic Acid:
Folic acid is needed for the processing of sugar and amino acids.
